NOTES
1) A
justification of SAR compliance must be provided for
all coils intended for Human use. Submit SAR estimates
to the CAMRIS committee for approval.
2) Tests
3 and 4 determine the maximum RF power level for which
a coil will be approved for animal or human exams.
3) The completed test results forms are
to be kept by the PI and a copy placed on file in
the RF lab.
4)
An individual designated by the RF lab staff is to
be present for Test 4 and will assist with tests 1-
3 upon request.
5) Test 4 will be performed for the
purpose of approving the coil for either routine use
or further development involving human subjects. For
routine use, the coil must be physically robust, having
a permanent covering of thickness equal to half the
distance between distributed capacitors. The PI may
provide CAMRIS with scientific evidence that it is
safe to use padding of less thickness than half the
spacing.
Only
routine-use coils may be used on people not specified
as approved volunteers.
An
important issue is who is responsible for performing
the 4 tests described in the RF TEST MANUAL and for
verifying that these tests were performed correctly.
The coil builder may be approved to perform Tests
#1-3.
Test
4, the human subject test, described in the RF TEST
MANUAL must be performed in the presence of a person
who has been specifically designated by the CAMRIS
Committee to oversee Test 4 performed. The CAMRIS
Committee must be confident that the person performing
these tests is capable and reliable. Thus, it is left
up to the committee's discretion as to the capability
of the coil builder to perform the tests to their
satisfaction.
