Mildred Cohn

Pre- & Post-Doctoral Position

An NIH sponsored training program offers predoctoral and postdoctoral training in neuroimaging, combining an understanding of central nervous system organization and function,the biophysical basis for the various imaging methodologies used to assess brain function in vivo, and a familiarity with existing and potential clinical applications of imaging methods to neurological and psychiatric disorders. We are particularly seeking trainees interested in using neuroimaging in animal models of neurological and psychiatric disorders.

Qualified applicants are US Citizens or green card holders with backgrounds in either biomedical or biophysical sciences. Trainees will participate in research and receive dual mentoring from a diverse group of preceptors with either methodological or neuroscience expertise. Hands-on training is supplemented by participation in seminar series covering translational neuroimaging, image analysis, cognitive neuroscience, and neuroethics.

Individuals interested in applying as predocs or postdocs should submit the following items to the Program Director, John A. Detre, MD

  1. a recent c.v. which includes previous work experience,
  2. a personal statement outlining their research interests and reasons for pursuing this particular training opportunity and
  3. a letter of introduction and recommendation from their training director or doctoral committee chairperson.

Graduation News

Walter Witschey successfully defended his dissertation in April 2009. He will be graduating in May with a doctorate degree in Biochemistry & Molecular Biophysics. He will be awarded the 2009 Saul Winegrad Award for Outstanding Dissertation in Biochemistry & Molecular Biophysics at the May 18 graduation ceremony.

Eric Mellon successfully defended his dissertation in the Fall of 2008. He obtained a doctorate degree in Biochemistry & Molecular Biophysics. As a M.D. Ph.D student, he is currently wrapping up his medical degree.

Gilliam Fellowship
