OverviewEXTRACTOR is a graphical user interface written in the IDL programming language (www.rsinc.com RSI, Inc., Boulder, CO). The program is a tool for the extraction and segmentation of sub-volumes from a 3D image data set. The program permits the interactive selection of standard image processing operations, including pixel intensity threshholding, seed growing, boundary tracing, and morphological dilation and erosion. The following image file formats are supported: GE 5.X image format, AVW (Analyze), TIFF, DICOM, or an IDL Save Set containing a 3D image array. A description of the application of Extractor to compute calf muscle volumes from MRI is available in PDF format. Screen Shot of this program Requirements
DownloadingStep 1. Download the Main program EXTRACTOR.PRO...............................(IDL source, text). Step 2. Download the EXTRACTOR routines. Choose the file that matches your version of IDL. EXTRACTOR_5.2.SAV ......................(IDL v5.2 "save" set, binary). EXTRACTOR_5.4.SAV ......................(IDL v5.4 "save" set, binary). Installation1) Place the two files extractor.pro and extractor_x.y.sav (where x.y matches your version of IDL, e.g. 5.4) in a directory in your IDL path. See the IDL help on the IDL_PATH or !PATH setup. 2) From IDL, type "extractor". You should see the EXTRACTOR STARTUP dialog box. Select the Image file type you wish to read from the choices of "GE, DICOM, Analyze", "IDL save set", or "TIFF". Then click the "Read New Data" button and select an image file. NOTE: For Analyze format files, you must choose the .hdr file (not the .img file). To read multiple 2D image files, choose a single file and answer yes when asked to read all image files in the same directory. 3) After the images have been read, click on the "Launch Extractor" button.
